Basic Metal Cage (Generic)

$25.99

Generic metal cages earn a LockedCage Score of just 5.2/10 — the lowest of any metal cage we reviewed. Safety scores 4/10 (all three test models required 30-60 minutes of filing before safe use) and durability scores 3/10 (chrome plating degraded within 3-6 months of regular wear). Compared to the Master Series Detained at 6.8/10, generics save only $10-15 but sacrifice brand QC and return options. Only acceptable for short-term testing; for safe metal wear, the BON4M ($219, score 9.2/10) is our recommended alternative.

Basic Metal Cage Review: The Truth About $20 Generic Cages

An honest safety assessment of Amazon and AliExpress metal cages, including quality issues you need to know.

Reviewed by LockedCage Team · Feb 14, 2026 · 7 min read · Based on testing 3 generic models

Safety Warning

Generic metal cages have inconsistent quality control. Sharp edges, rough welds, and poor materials are common. Inspect thoroughly before use and never wear overnight until tested during the day.

What Are “Basic Metal Cages”?

These are the $20-40 metal cages flooding Amazon, AliExpress, and eBay. They have no brand name, minimal packaging, and generic product photos. They're manufactured in bulk with zero quality control and sold by dozens of resellers under different names. For just $15 more, the Master Series Detained offers at least some brand accountability, and the Mature Metal Jailbird represents what properly made steel actually looks like.

We tested three popular models over 2 weeks. Here's what we found.

The Good

  • Extremely cheap: $20-30 makes metal accessible to everyone.
  • Good for testing: Try metal before investing in premium.
  • Open-bar design: Most use birdcage style for easy cleaning.
  • Multiple ring sizes: Usually includes 3-4 rings.

The Bad (Critical)

  • Sharp edges: All 3 models had edges that could cut skin. Required filing.
  • Rough welds: Visible weld marks, uneven surfaces, potential pinch points.
  • Not stainless: Chrome-plated zinc. Will rust with moisture exposure.
  • Terrible locks: Flimsy padlocks that jam or break. Replace immediately.
  • Inconsistent sizing: Ring sizes vary +/-2mm between batches.
  • No support: Zero customer service. No returns on "intimate items."

Real Safety Issues We Found

  • Model A: Sharp weld on cage tip caused minor cut during first wear
  • Model B: Base ring had burr that pinched skin repeatedly
  • Model C: Lock mechanism jammed, requiring bolt cutters to remove

All three required 30-60 minutes of filing and sanding before safe use.

If You Must Buy Generic: Safety Checklist

Before First Wear (Required)

  1. 1
Visual inspection: Check every weld, edge, and surface under bright light. Look for sharp spots, rough areas, and uneven finishing.
  2. 2
Touch test: Run your fingers slowly over every surface. If it catches on skin, it needs filing.
  3. 3
File sharp edges: Use a metal file or fine sandpaper (400+ grit) to smooth any rough spots. Focus on cage tip, ring edges, and weld points.
  4. 4
Lock test: Lock and unlock 20+ times. If it sticks or jams, replace the lock before wearing.
  5. 5
Short test wear: Wear for 30 minutes while at home. Check for pinching, discomfort, or skin irritation.
  6. 6
Emergency key access: Keep bolt cutters or angle grinder accessible. Cheap locks can fail.

Generic vs. Quality: The Real Cost

vs. BON4M Stainless Steel ($219)

Comparison

Our take: BON4M costs 8x more but will last 50x longer. If you can afford it, skip generic entirely.

Generic wins on:

Price ($25 vs $219), good for testing metal

BON4M Stainless Steel wins on:

Safety, material quality, durability, comfort, customer support, lifetime device

vs. Master Series Detained ($40)

Comparison

Our take: For $15-20 more, you get XR Brands QC and support. Worth the upgrade if buying new.

Generic wins on:

Slightly cheaper ($25 vs $40)

Master Series Detained wins on:

Better QC, brand support, slightly better finishing, returnable

vs. CB-6000 Plastic ($100)

Comparison

Our take: CB-6000 is safer, more comfortable, and has proven design. Generic metal is not worth the risk vs. proven plastic.

Generic wins on:

Metal feel, cheaper ($25 vs $100)

CB-6000 Plastic wins on:

Safety, comfort, proven design, no sharp edges, better rings, customer support

What Users Say

I would expect them to be all the same low quality. How do I know which one won't rust, is lightweight, comes with a good quality lock, and doesn't have any pinching parts or rough edges/welding? They all look the same but the prices are so different.

ChastityMansion.com forum

Bought one from Amazon for $28. Had to file down three sharp edges before I could wear it. Lock broke after 2 weeks. You get what you pay for.

Reddit r/chastity

When you have a chrome plated cage that is not surgical steel the coating can rub off and it can rust underneath.

ChastityForums.com

It worked for testing if I liked metal. After 2 months I upgraded to a BON4. The generic cage is now in a drawer—I wouldn't trust it for long-term wear.

Common Questions

With extreme caution, yes. You MUST inspect every weld, edge, and surface before first wear. File down any sharp spots, check for rough welds, and test the lock mechanism. Many users report cuts, pinching, and skin irritation from poor finishing. Never wear overnight until you've tested for several hours during the day.

Most aren't. Generic cages are typically chrome-plated zinc alloy or aluminum, not true stainless steel. Test with a magnet: if it sticks strongly, it's likely plated steel (which will rust). True 304/316 stainless is weakly magnetic or non-magnetic. Assume it will degrade within 6-12 months.

No quality control, no customer support, no design refinement, and often no safety testing. They're mass-produced in factories with minimal oversight. You're paying $20-30 for raw materials and basic manufacturing—nothing more.

Not recommended. The material degradation, rough edges, and poor ring design make them unsuitable for 24/7 wear. Use them for short sessions (2-4 hours) or as a "test" before investing in a quality cage. If you want long-term wear, save up for a BON4, Mature Metal, or HolyTrainer.

Check reviews for mentions of "sharp edges," "rough welds," or "rust." Look for cages with hinged rings (easier to put on). Verify the seller accepts returns. Order one size larger than you think you need—generic sizing is inconsistent. Budget an extra $10-15 for a better padlock.

Occasionally. Some AliExpress sellers produce decent cages, but it's a lottery. Look for sellers with 1000+ orders and 4.5+ star ratings. Read recent reviews (within 3 months). Even then, expect to file edges and replace the lock. If you find a good one, buy a backup—quality varies batch to batch.
